Words By: Lucinda Starr

You’ve left the office late (again). On your way home in an Uber, a sudden realisation dawns upon you. The. Fridge. Is. Empty. I’m talking condiments only. Maybe a lone can of beer too (if you’re lucky). And the grocery store sure ain’t an option anymore.

Ordering in appears the only solution. So, to save you the hours of strolling through endless sushi joints and pizza parlors, Menulog have revealed their most popular restaurants and dishes from across the country. Meet, the Menulog Summer Restaurant Award winners for 2019!

Dinner sorted.

Let’s Start With The Favourite Venues

Not all restaurants are created equal. Across the country, Menulog have scoured their most popular locations to craft their coveted award winners. For Rory Murphy, Menulog’s Commercial Director, the awards are, “designed to recognise and reward the hard work of our restaurant partners, particularly those who have delivered exceptional experiences for local customers.”

So, where should you be ordering from tonight? Here are the most popular spots from each state:

  • VIC: the ultimate pizza joint, The Rollin Dough (did someone say King Prawns and Goats Cheese?).

  • NSW: nab cheesy garlic bread and a classic Cheeseburger from the team at Base and Burger Mount Annan.

  • ACT: hummus, stuffed vine leaves  and paprika lamb skewers from Turkish Grill Restaurant, need we say more?

  • NT: sure, Alice Springs ain’t known for its Sweet and Sour Pork. But Hong Kong Restaurant is said to make a mean plate of homemade Dim Sims.

  • WA: who doesn’t want a bargain every night of the week? Say yes to two large pizzas for $29 at Alkimos Pizza.

  • SA: can’t pick a cuisine? Have the best of both worlds with a Butter Chicken Delight pizza from Karrara Pizza (because, why not right?).

  • TAS: eat all the sushi with a party platter from local eatery Midori Japanese Kitchen.

  • QLD: indulge with laksa and all the prawn chips from Caboolture’s Belly God.

The cream of the crop this year proves Victorian burger joint, On It Burgers in Ferntree Gully, taking out the title for Australia’s favourite summer restaurant. A glance at the menu reveals why: load up on Bacon Jammy burger smothered in bacon jam, or try their veggo-friendly Fun G Burger with panko crusted cheese filled Portobello mushroom. *Drools*

Now, What’s On The Menu?

We all have our favourite dishes. It could be that classic carbonara at your local Italian spot, or the teriyaki salmon don bowl you can’t resist from the tiny Japanese takeaway around the corner. Food trends come and go, but some gain some serious traction.

So, what’s been trending on Menulog this summer?

Victorian’s can’t seem to resist nabbing a late-night feed from the team at Bentleigh Kebabs and love to cool off with a ice cream from Cold Rock in Lilydale. Bowls ain’t going anywhere, with Salon De Sushi awarded The Best Bowl for their Poke Chirashi dish. Vegans are flocking to Loving Hut in Melbourne’s Northcote and Sydneysiders believe Manoosh Pizzeria serves up the best meal deal around.

The most surprising award of all goes to McIvor Road Fish & Chips in South Melbourne, earning the title of Best Dumplings for summer 2019. No. Words.
