READ: Feelin’ A Change In Tunes? Here’s A Bunch Of Rappers You Should Check Out

I’m no expert in rap, but I do appreciate good lyrics that I can relate to, lyrics that actually mean something! And of course, all spun within a sweet flow. So I’ve curated a list for you, a list of rappers I think have something to say. Unfortunately the likes of migos, lil yachty or any other mumble rap will not feature in this article but feel free to keep on reading, you might find something new!

TheRealAK (Austin Kassabian)

In 2016 TheRealAK uploaded his first YouTube rap video, ever. Two years later, that first upload has racked up a measly 29 million views…. TWENTY. NINE. MILLION.

Titled ‘16 KILLS PANDA REMIX!!!’ it garnered a lot of attention, then his flow, honesty and style seemed to do the rest. Now selling out tours, freestyling on ‘Sway in the morning’ (the ultimate test) and continuing to spread his message about achieving your dreams and dealing with the challenges life throws at you, TheRealAK is someone to check out.

Mac Lethal (David McCleary Sheldon)

David McCleary Sheldon, or more commonly known as Mac Lethal is a rapper that is currently pushing the limits of his craft in not only speed but versatility. Now indisputably one of the fastest rappers around after his viral video “AMAZING TONGUE TWISTER RAP (I bet you can’t say this!!!!)”  Mac Lethal is not only spitting the quickest words around but also challenging the way he does it.

From funny to fascinating to brutally honest. Mac Lethal has carved his own lane within youtube rap and is enjoying huge success. So if you ever get bored and want to laugh, learn or just kill some time I’d check him out.

P.S I’d suggest you start with “Rapping 1000 words in 2 minutes”. Yep, one thousand - mind blown.

Lil Dicky (David Burd)

Speaking of people mixing up the rap game a little bit, Dave Burd, a.k.a Lil Dicky, a comedic rapper that’s really blown up the last few years takes our next spot on this list. Following a similar trend to the rest of the list, Lil Dicky found fame on YouTube after his video “Ex-Boyfriend” went viral. Since then he has worked with the likes of Brendon Urie (Panic! at the Disco), Fetty Wap, Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown and more. Lil Dicky’s style of modern comedy coupled with his witty word play, makes his tracks relatable, hilarious and entertaining AF. His recent hit that found itself on mainstream radio, “Freaky Friday”, featured Chris Brown (I mean you gotta be good to get CB out of his recent hiatus). It even cameoed some other celebs like Ed Sheeran, Dj Khaled and Kendall Jenner. Not bad for a comedy rapper from YouTube.

Snow Tha Product (Claudia Alexandra Feliciano)

Singer, producer, actor. Did someone say triple threat? Wham bam thank you mam!

Claudia Alexandra Feliciano a.k.a Snow Tha Product or Snow has been working with industries best since 2007, but for some weird reason hasn’t quite broken into the main steam . Having done collabs with the likes of Tech N9ne and Ty Dolla Sign, her experience, despite being relatively unknown in comparison to the other members of this list, holds up as strong as anyone else’s. Her songs “No Lie”, “Waste of Time”, and “Let U Go” are my favourite, because in all of them she flawlessly flows about the hardships and heartbreak, whilst her song “Snooze” discusses a number of hot topics, that I think we should all be talking about. Being an independent, female artist paving her own way in the scene grants mad respect and more than rightfully earns her spot in this list. Well done Snow!

Hopsin (Marcus Jamal Hopson)

Remember Hopsin? Well as we finish up I think it’s time to give him a revisit, as he’s recently been spreading some new fire.

His current song series titled “Ill Mind Of Hopsin” goes into great length about his own personal struggles with life, religion and how his genre of music impacts his listeners as a whole. His track  “Ill Mind of Hopsin 5” despite being nearly six years old, is more relevant today than it ever has been. His style reflects an older style of hip hop, with an edge to him as sharp as glass. He’s lyrics can be dark, twisted and dangerous. Hooks me every time.
