20 years busking on the streets of Fremantle and seven albums later, The Feed caught up with the lead singer behind Aussie roots and rock band John Butler Trio to chat all things music, activism and his long-arse nails.

From his early days writing protest songs, Butler discussed his more recent releases stating, “I write more songs about people...it’s a lot more interesting...how many songs can you write about a dodgy crew coming into good communities and taking over places?

I would rather talk about how a young boy wasn’t loved by his father and how he became a tyrant. You know, that sounds like more of an interesting story and more of a story that’s relatable.’
