The end of Hollywood’s golden era meets the infamous Charles Manson family murders in Quentin Tarantino’s ninth feature film, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. And by the looks of the trailer, it’s going to be worth the wait.
What looks to be an action-packed, fantastical homage to the great era of film runs parallel to one of the most significant events during the summer of ‘69 - a ride that only Tarantino could possibly take us on.
Through grand wry wit, intricate character plots and dialogue, Tarantino transports his audience through time to a dying Hollywood where actor Rick Dalton, a soon-to-be washed up TV star (Leonardo Dicaprio) and his stunt double and pep talkin’ best friend, Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) experience its demise first hand. The story follows these characters through the 60’s landscape of free love and spaghetti westerns, while adding a sly undertone of murderous intrigue by placing the action right across the road from the Manson Family home (with Sharon Tate played by our very own Margot Robbie).
With two narratives running parallel in time, they soon converge through Tarantino’s clever and often vengeful lense. Not only is the plot rich with detail, it’s mind blowing cast is the cinematic gift that keeps on giving. Lead by Dicaprio, Pitt and Robbie, we’re graced with performances by Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, Dakota Fanning, Lena Dunham, James Marsden and the late Luke Perry.
The film will be released late July but for now, feast your eyes on the first full length trailer below.
